Textual Immersion of Sarga 1 of Yadavabhyudaya
Yadavabhyudaya is a magnum opus of Sri Vedanta Desika. It is a Samskrita mahakavya in 24 sargas and over 2,600 verses, celebrating the divine life of Sri Krishna and the glorious Yadava lineage. Blending classical epic grandeur with the devotional essence of Vishishtadvaita Vedanta, it traces Krishna’s story from his birth to his reign in Dvaraka. The First Sarga of this work sets the foundation, introducing the Yaduvamsha and describing the plea of the Deva-s that led to Bhagavan Narayana’s decision to incarnate in the womb of Devaki. In this 3-credit course, Dr. Sowmya Krishnapur takes learners on a deep dive into the 100 verses of Sarga 1, uncovering the layers of linguistic and poetic richness through comprehensive explanations of each verse.
